Feeling a bit blue and dejected a few weekends ago, I decided that a random act of kindness would improve my mood. My friend Casey thought it was more of a random act of hipster-ness. But hey, I live in San Francisco so there’s no shame in that. My idea was to leave cheesy little love notes attached to vintage keys and dispersing them throughout Golden Gate Park. Just picturing someone’s smile when they find a handwritten note tucked away in a potted plant or even in the crack on the sidewalk made me giddy with excitement.
To create your own love notes for strangers in your neighborhood, all you’ll need is a sheet of lined paper, scissors, a pen, some keys and ribbon, and the left side of your brain or a pocket full of cheesy movie lines. My notes said:
“Hi there. So excited that you found my note! I don’t know you, but I want to tell you…that the key to happiness is in your hands. Make a friend laugh, make a stranger laugh, make yourself laugh! Go crazy!
P.S. Don’t be afraid to unlock doors that lead to the unknown, more often than not, you will be pleasantly surprised.”
